What to Expect on Roof Installation Day
Expect noise, a crew on the roof, a dumpster in the driveway and a magnet sweep at the end. Most of your job is to clear access, protect a few things inside and plan around the noise.

How to Prepare
A little preparation makes the day smoother.
- Move vehicles out of the driveway and garage.
- Take down wall hangings on top-floor walls; vibration can shake them loose.
- Cover items in the attic.
- Mark sprinkler heads and fragile landscaping.
- Keep pets and kids away from the work area.

The Sequence of Work
Here's the typical order on a tear-off replacement.
- Protect landscaping, siding and entries.
- Tear off old roofing down to the deck.
- Inspect the deck and replace damaged boards.
- Install drip edge, ice-and-water protection and underlayment.
- Install the new roofing and flashing details.
- Install ventilation components.
- Clean up and sweep for nails.
- Final walkthrough with you.
