Gutters and Roof Drainage
Gutters are the roof's drainage system. When they sag, overflow or come loose, water ends up on fascia, siding and the foundation. DryInside treats gutters as part of the roof, not an afterthought.

What Gutters Actually Do
They collect water at the eaves and deliver it to downspouts that carry it away from the house. Every part — size, pitch, hangers, outlets, downspouts — affects whether that happens.

Pitch
Gutters need a slight, consistent slope toward outlets. Too flat and water stands; sagging sections collect debris and ice; too steep and water overshoots at the downspout.

Downspouts
Downspouts should be sized for the roof area they serve and discharge away from the foundation. Crushed, clogged or disconnected downspouts are a common cause of basement and crawlspace water.

The Roof Relationship
Drip edge should direct water into the gutter, not behind it. Gutters mounted too low let water run down the fascia; too high and snow and ice tear them off.

Snow and Ice
In Central Oregon and northern Utah, ice in gutters adds weight and can pull them loose. Ice dams at the eaves often show up in the gutters first.

Storm and Hail Damage
Hail dents gutters and downspouts; wind pulls sections loose; falling limbs crush them. Dents on gutters are also useful evidence of hail size during a roof inspection.

Replacement Considerations
Replacement makes sense when gutters are widely dented, sagging, leaking at many seams or undersized. It's often best timed with a roof replacement so drip edge and gutters are installed together.
